Give your Church Family the Option to Donate Online

Many ministries are offering the option for people to make their donations online. This is a great option for people who travel, are missionaries, and for those who like to use their credit card for points programs. Below are a couple options of how to build this into your website.

CanadaHelps

CanadaHelps is a not-for-profit charity portal and a registered public foundation (BN 896568417RR0001) that seeks to promote and facilitate philanthropy through online giving. They operate a website that allows donors to make online credit card donations to the approximately 80,000 registered charities in Canada. It also allows charities to receive online credit card donations without the expense of setting up their own secure donations site.

CanadaHelps assesses a 3% transaction charge on each donation. This 3% is deducted from the donation before being disbursed to your charity, and covers all aspects of the transaction, including the credit card merchant rate, credit card transaction charge, reconciliation and disbursement-related costs.

There are no monthly charges or set-up/registration costs; only the amount assessed from a donation. The 3% is a modest charge for the service that CanadaHelps provides to Canadian donors and the charities they support.

There is an additional 1% (for a total of 4%) assessed from donations to charities that haven’t signed up for Electronic Funds Transfer for donations. Sign your charity up today!

CanadaHelps issues the tax receipt - all you have to do is donor recognition and thanks. CanadaHelps uses it's own charitable business number for receipting purposes. The receipt clearly indicates the charity the donation was designated for and the amount donated. Within minutes of making the donation, the donor will receive the electronic tax receipt emailed to them. The donor can then save and print this receipt at any time to use for income tax purposes. As per Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regulations, the official receipt is in an unalterable PDF format. Your charity cannot issue a receipt to the donor.


"Donate Now!" button
Only when you register will you have access to the “Donate Now!” button code for your website.

The “Donate Now!” button creates a link from your website directly to your donation page on CanadaHelps.org. This eliminates the need for donors to search for your organization when making a donation, and reduces the number of steps in the donation process.

Once you register, you will be able to access the code for the “Donate Now!” button (which you may add to your website with VictoryCMS) in the MyCharity admin area of CanadaHelps.org.

PayPal Donations

Collect donations from a button on your website, or even using a link in an email! PayPal Donations is a low cost way for you to accept credit card and bank account donations.

Once your account is set up

To create your button for your donations:

  1. Click on Products and Services on the PayPal main menu
  2. Under Ways to Get Paid click on the link Website Payments Standard
  3. Under the Donate button click on Create one now
  4. Enter Your Ministry name in the box provided
  5. Customize the button or upload one of your own
  6. Choose your currency
  7. Save your button
  8. Customize advance features (optional)
  9. Click Create Button
  10. Copy the code provided by PayPal for the button
  11. Login to VictoryCMS and open the webpage you want to place the donation button on.
  12. Start a new paragraph to define the area you will place the button and type the words "donate" in the content.
  13. Click on the HTML Source button in the VictoryCMS toolbar.
  14. Highlight the line that says <p>donate</p> and then paste the code you copied overtop of it.
  15. Click on HTML Source again to go back to the normal view.
  16. Click on Publish Page.
